HUNTING DOG TRAINING BY REDDOG GUIDE SERVICE, BOWDOINHAM MAINE

We offer training sessions for dogs and owners where we will do drills and lessons for both.

We do pointer, flushing dog, and retriever training.

Sessions are $50 per hour and most last an hour plus the cost of the birds we use.

Wild Bird Training/ Season Tune Up.

We run dogs on wild birds for the day. $100 a day. This will take place in the spring most likely end of March into April, when woodcock are returning, until we find a nest. Check our Facebook page for updates when we start seeing birds return. We will start up again Mid August once chicks can fly thru the start of grouse season. The location will be at my house or out of our camp in the Sherman area. This is a great way to get dogs ready for the up-coming season.

HI Casey-

I’m sending you this photo of Gus and if you look really close, a bird at his feet (I’ve got to get better on my photo taking.) I thought you might like to see this because you had a hand in his training. Yesterday Gus and I went out—his first time on wild birds—and he put up six birds in three hours. This was the first. It and another bird landed in trees just off the road. I went in to take them, saw this bird and shot it off the limb. While I was looking for the other bird Gus calmly went over to this bird and retrieved it to me, dropping it at my feet. I was dumbfounded. Without any prompting on my part he did all of this.

And maybe even better than that, when we first got out of the car in the woods and he saw me break open my shotgun to load it he started whining and jumping around—ready to go!!!

Now it is on to duck training with you. I’ve been doing some hunting in the Bay but have not taken him. After yesterday I think I better bring him along.
